Prof. Alfred J. Crosby

Professor, Polymer Science & Engineering Department, UMass Amherst

Al is Professor of Polymer Science & Engineering and Co-Director of the Center for Evolutionary Materials at UMass Amherst. He leads a research team focused on the overall theme of bioinspired materials mechanics. As a co-PI on the LaMSA project, Al focuses on understanding how structure-property relationships of materials in biological and engineered LaMSA systems impact full system performance. His team’s work combines novel characterization methods, new materials formulations and processing methods, as well as the development of analytical scaling theories and detailed numerical models to reveal new understanding in biology and new design strategies in engineered devices.
